BSC honors RGIA with 5 Star Rating on Health & Safety!
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been awarded with the prestigious 5-Star rating by the British Safety Council for its Health & Safety Management System.
The BSC 5-star rating is a very prestigious safety award globally and RGIA is the only Airport in the whole world to receive this coveted award. Even outside the aviation industry, only a few organisations in India like Asian Paints, Tata Motors, GAIL, Reliance and L&T have received the award in the last ten years. The award criterion is very stringent. There are 995 safety compliance requirements for the Health & Safety Management System covering 57 elements. In order to get a 5-Star rating, a minimum of 92% has to be obtained out of a total score of 5000, whereas RGIA scored 96%.
It is an incredible achievement; particularly considering the fact that implementation of such a system in an operational airport with multiple stakeholders is a herculean task. The achievement clearly demonstrates RGIA’s commitment towards Health & Safety for its employees, passengers, and the entire airport community.
World Environment Day (WED) Celebration at RGIA
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) celebrated the World Environment Day (WED) with the support of the entire airport community. A series of programmes were organised involving all the employees, stakeholders and the passengers to sensitise them on the need of environment protection. Activities like environment quiz, poster competition, plantation drive with airport community members etc. were organised. Arrangements were also made at the airport for sapling distribution and plantation involving passengers. RGIA’s ecofriendly initiatives were on display at the airport for everyone.
As a part of the green initiative, RGIA is encouraging airport passengers and visitors to use public transport facilities available at the airport. On WED, Thank You cards were issued along with the tickets to passengers who used public transport. This was done to emphasise on the need to save fuel, reduce air pollution and control the congestion of roads by use of public transport.
Security Awareness Week at RGIA
RGIA since its inception has been on a constant endevour to ensure complete safety for all airport users and employees. To maintain high service levels and educate our passengers about airport security and other safety drills, a Safety Awareness Week was organised at RGIA from 24th to 30th January. Several activities around the theme were organised to spread awareness amongairport community members including passengers. These included security quiz competition for passengers, mock drills, theme-based plays and even a 10k run by employees to carry the message across. The efforts were highly appreciated by the passengers.

To make the celebrations more inclusive, several stalls displaying items made by women from weaker sections were put up. This was done in consonance with GHIAL’s philosophy of woman empowerment. We have a long-term goal to develop gender-balanced teams where all talents and approaches can intermingle to achieve further growth and success in the business.
