GMR Hyderabad International Airport Receives Carbon Neutrality Certificate from Airports Council International

The prestigious certificate was given away at a glittering ceremony organized by ACI at Doha, Qatar

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), a GMR Group led consortium, which operates Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, today announced that after receiving the Carbon Neutrality (Level 3+: Neutrality) status by Airports Council International (ACI) in December 2016, it has been conferred with the certificate at a glittering ceremony organized at Doha, Qatar recently. Ms. Kerrie Mather, President, ACI Asia-Pacific gave away the prestigious certificate to Mr. SGK Kishore, CEO, GHIAL; Mr. Manish Sinha, COO, GHIAL and Mr. Narayanasamy Venkatachalapathy, Head, Safety & Environment, GHIAL.

Airports Council International (ACI) certified RGIA with Level 3+ Neutrality under its Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is the industry standard for assessment of airports' efforts to manage and reduce carbon emissions. The ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation programme was launched in June 2009, and comprises of four levels: 'Mapping' (Level 1), 'Reduction' (Level 2), 'Optimization' (Level 3) and 'Neutrality' (Level 3+). Hyderabad Airport progressively achieved the ACI’s accreditations starting from achieving Level 1 and Level 2 which is Mapping and Reduction, respectively in 2012. The airport gained Level 3 status of Optmisation in 2013. This year, GHIAL has achieved Level 3+ Neutrality, which is the fourth and highest accreditation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme of ACI.

Commenting after receiving the certificate, Mr SGK Kishore, CEO, GHIAL, said, “We are glad to receive the Level3+ Neutrality certificate under ACI’s Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. It is a feather in our cap and recognition for the sustainable environmental measures that we are taking up at the airport. Our proactive energy conservation measures, generation of renewable energy (5 MW Solar Power Plant), carbon sinking through extensive greenbelt and various other environment protection initiatives with the active support of the airport’s stakeholders have contributed towards achieving this status. Continuing our journey towards sustainability, we are also migrating to energy efficient LED lighting for the entire airport of which more than 75% has been completed. This also includes the recent accomplishment of converting the entire Runway Edge Lights into LED.”
