GMR Group Chairman Honored with ‘Bulandh Bharath’ Award

27th edition of All India Builders’ Convention organized by Builders’ Association of India, Hyderabad Centre under the theme of ‘Bulandh Bharath - Shaping India's Glory!’

GMR Group Chairman, Mr G.M. Rao was honored with the prestigious ‘Bulandh Bharath’ Award for his exemplary contributions towards nation building.

Mr. SGK Kishore, CEO, GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) accepted the award on behalf of Mr. GM Rao from Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana and Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt of India, during the 27th All India Builders’ Convention (AIBC) organized today by Builders’ Association of India (BAI), Hyderabad Centre at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

Bulandh Bharath Awards is an initiative by BAI to recognise and appreciate innovation and motivate others to be inspired to excel too. This award is an effort to identify and reward excellence in the field of construction and infrastructure in the country and acknowledge the outstanding contribution made in the field of construction.

Commenting on this award, Mr G.M. Rao, Group Chairman, GMR Group, said, “I feel blessed by the opportunity to serve my Country by building national assets. We are committed towards creating infrastructural assets for the rising India. Our dedication and honest efforts have seen some of the world-class assets like Delhi and Hyderabad Airports. We continue doing this. I am Grateful to BAI for bestowing me with this honour and I humbly accept the award on behalf of the entire GMR family.”

Mr G. M. Rao is a noted and visionary industrialist, who has spent a lifetime nurturing and sharing values of excellence, innovation and sustainability alongside social responsibilities and philanthropy. He has been an inspirational fountainhead for several Indian companies to think big and build world-class infrastructure projects. Under his exemplary leadership, GMR Group has created many firsts. The Group developed India’s first Greenfield airport under PPP model at Hyderabad and also India’s first and largest Brownfield international airport at Delhi. Both of them rank among top airports in the world.

Mr Rao has set the benchmarks for creating and operating national and international assets of global scale and quality in several sectors including energy, highways, large urban development and airports. A serial entrepreneur, Mr Rao started his entrepreneurial journey from a small jute mill in the remote village and went on to create a mammoth infrastructure conglomerate.

Mr G.M. Rao’s vision is to make GMR Group an institution in perpetuity and for that family constitution was the first step. He believes that Corporate Governance and Family Governance are inter-linked blocks completing the cycle of Institution Building.

A committed philanthropist, Mr Rao has dedicated his entire personal wealth to the GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, which funds charitable activities and institutions in the areas of education, healthcare, livelihood support and community development.
