E-boarding Now Live for International Passengers on Emirates Airlines from GMR Hyderabad International Airport

Hyderabad, February 22, 2021 : Inching towards a paper-less airport, GMR Hyderabad International today went live with e-boarding for the international passengers of Emirates Airlines. Indigo and GoAir Airlines scheduled International carriers have already gone live with paperless e-boarding from Hyderabad International Airport and Emirates is the latest addition to this list. Emirates Airlines today commenced this facility when it’s Dubai bound passengers e-boarded themselves on the EK 527 flight.

GMR led Hyderabad International Airport is credited as the first and only airport in India to offer truly end-to-end paperless E-boarding to all its domestic passengers across all flights. Building on this laurel, under the true spirit of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, GMR Hyderabad International Airport has started rolling out this indigenously developed digital solution to international flights from December 2020, becoming the first airport in India to do so.

Mr. Pradeep Panicker, CEO – GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) said, “We are glad that Emirates has also started using our indigenously developed e-boarding process. It is the first in the fleet of international airlines to do so. GMR Hyderabad International Airport is continuously striving for excellence when it comes to seamless passenger experience and the aim is to have systems and processes which are quicker and contactless. We are confident that in the days to come all international airlines will start using e-boarding towards our goal of paperless airport”.

In line with the Government of India’s Digital India campaign, GHIAL’s international e-boarding service ramps up safe travel options for international passengers choosing to fly out of Hyderabad. Based on a rigorous and successful pilot the government had given nod to Hyderabad International Airport to roll out its e-boarding services for international flights.

The E-boarding solution is fully backwards-compatible, and passengers would be free to choose between using conventional paper boarding passes or electronic boarding passes on their mobile phones to use the system. Some of the key benefits out of International E-boarding include - enhanced passenger experience, reducing queue waiting time at the airport, removes redundancies at check points, helps airlines to optimize their processes and improve their resource utilization. The real time data availability of all passenger check points helps enhance airport’s operational efficiency and enhanced overall safety and security of airport.

Special screening and safety measures are in place at GMR Hyderabad International Airport during the flight’s handling to protect against the COVID-19, which includes thermal screening prior to terminal entry, mandatory social distancing enforced through special queuing arrangements at all passenger processing points. An RT-PCR testing facility is also functioning at the airport for passenger screening.

Recently, the Hyderabad International Airport achieved ‘Airports Council International (ACI) ‘Airport Health Accreditation’ for its measures strengthening safe travels and was awarded ‘Voice of Customer’ recognition by ACI along with GMR’s Delhi International Airport for its continuous efforts to listen to its passengers, engage and gather feedback to understand their needs and ensure customers’ voice was heard during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

It could be recalled that Hyderabad International Airport went live for its domestic e-boarding facility in December 2015. The airport is currently handling every scheduled domestic operations through this end-to-end paperless E-boarding.
